HAMMOND, La. – As part of the Southland Conference’s “Southland Gives Back” initiative, the Southeastern Louisiana Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), the SLU Athletics Ticket Office and SLU Multicultural and International Student Affairs (MISA) partnered for the “Season of Giving” Food Drive throughout the months of November and December.The drive benefitted the Southeastern Food Pantry, operated by MISA, the pantry aims to provide food to any Southeastern Louisiana student in need.SLU athletics collected non-perishable food items and toiletries throughout the two-month period. Fans who donated received a voucher for a discounted ticket for a men’s and women’s basketball game of their choice.Assistant Athletic Director for Academic Affairs/Senior Woman Administrator Michelle Harper, who serves as the SAAC advisor, says it was an easy decision for the SLU SAAC to partner with MISA.”Our student community provides great support for all of our student-athletes at their events,” Harper said. “We were pleased to be able to give back to those students who are in need.”Each Southland Conference member institution participates in a “Southland Gives Back” event around the holidays. As part of the “Southland Gives Back” initiative, the Southland Conference will profile a community service outing from each of our 13 member institutions this holiday season.
