first_imgSports and entertainment always go hand-in-hand and when a top athlete dates or weds a global superstar, it catapults their stardom to an even higher level overnight. One of the most recognised and worshiped athletes around the world at the moment, Indian cricket team captain Virat Kohli, and his girlfriend, Bollywood star Anushka Sharma, are one such couple. The couple has been a favourite of the masses and has dominated headlines ever since they started dating back in 2013.Whatever they do in their personal lives, be it their vacations, public appearances together or expressing their love for each other on social media, it attracts a lot of attention not just in India but the world over..As far as celebrity couples are concerned, Virushka (the name given to them by fans), are right on top with the likes of other high-profile couples like Gerard Pique-Shakira and Tom Brady-Gisele Bundchen. The kind of attention that Virat and Anushka get these days, one cannot help but compare their relationship with the original power-couple of David and Victoria Beckham.(Reuters Photo)And it’s not just about the attention these stars draw together. In a recent show on Breakfast with Champions, Kohli threw light on Anushka’s influence on his life:”Ever since the lady has come into my life, she’s taught me a lot of things. I’ve learnt a lot, become more sensible in the last 4 years all because of her. She’s taught me how to be more patient and taught me how to utilise the position you are in to the fullest,” Kohli told Gaurav Kapoor on his chat show Breakfast with Champions.advertisementDavid and Victoria Beckham started dating in 1997 and just a couple of years later, were given the nickname Posh and Becks. David’s stardom skyrocketed after his relationship with Victoria Adams went public.Victoria was already a global superstar by then thanks to her pop girl group the Spice Girls. And Beckham became a household name after breaking into the senior team at Manchester United in the late 1990s.The couple got married in 1999 and since then their movers have been closely tracked and covered by the media worldwide. David and Victoria both became global brands after they got together and are one of the most recognisable faces in the world even today.Kohli and Anushka are close on their heels thanks to the rise of social media. Each and every post they upload on social media goes viral within seconds thanks to their millions of followers on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.Kohli has regularly featured in Forbes’ top-10 list of most valuable athletes in the last couple of years. Anushka on the other hand has delivered hit after hit with the same frequency as Kohli scores his hundreds with blockbuster films like PK, Sultan and Ae Dil Hai Mushkil which have garnered hundreds of crores at the box office.Since the two got together in 2013, Kohli has smashed 19 hundreds in ODIs and 16 tons in Test match cricket. But just like Posh and Becks, Virushka have had to deal with the ugly side of superstardom as well. Anushka has time and again been subjected to social media trolls whenever Kohli failed to score runs on the field and she was blamed by fans for his failures as she used to accompany her beau on overseas tours. The cricketer has stood up for his girlfriend and lashed out at these trolls each time Anushka’s name gets dragged into such unnecessary controversies. But both of them know very well that this is a part of their job and have dealt with all this with grace and dignity.Their die-hard fans now expect the couple to take the next big step and get married soon. But both are extremely busy with their respective careers at the moment and it may be a while before we see the two getting hitched like David and Victoria Beckham did all those years back.last_img
