‘Don’t Limit Your Education’, University Professor Urges Graduates

first_imgA university professor has challenged students graduating from various schools across the country to pursue further education as long as there is an opportunity for them to continue their academic sojourn.Mulbah B. Sumo, professor at the African Methodist Episcopal (AME- Zion) University in Monrovia, made the admonition to graduates recently at a program marking the close of his educational philosophy and health classes.45 students acquired knowledge in philosophy and health education to hold the program.According to Prof. Sumo, getting more education enables a person to withstand the difficult circumstances of life. He, therefore, urged the students to continue focusing their attention on furthering their education.He added that being well educated helps to make an individual undertake any given task whenever assigned to do so.“Don’t ever be satisfied with your level of education at the moment. Always put yourself in the position to further your education whenever there is an opportunity. This will enable you to represent yourself and your country,” he advised the graduates.According to him, the age of anyone desirous of learning should not serve as a barrier once there was the time set aside for study.“Continue to claim the hope for a better future,” he added as the graduates gave him a round of applause.He then challenged the graduates to step out in their communities and impart the knowledge acquired to others.    Prof. Mullah also disclosed plans for his school to shortly introduce courses for primary education.For his part, the Dean for Liberal Arts College at the A.M.E Zion University, Felix B. first_imgOver two dozen students and faculty members from universities across the United States were taken on aSt Cuthberts Mission Toshao Lennox Shuman demonstrates the proper use of an indigenous bow and arrow to CULP participantscultural exchange visit to local Amerindian village, Saint Cuthberts Mission.The event was planned by members of the US Embassy in Guyana and village leader Lennox Shuman.While in the village, the 32 students conducted various exercises in youth leadership and team building with the 70 plus school-aged youths in attendance.In addition to providing some lessons on the basics of leadership and the importance of role models and personal values, the event provided local youths and their American counterparts with the opportunity to interact and develop an understanding of each other’s culture and way of life.After some practice with traditional bow and arrows and hunting spears, the US visitors enjoyed a traditional Guyanese lunch of “cook up.”The students and staff are part of the Cultural Understanding and Language Proficiency (CULP) programme that provides college students and faculty with the opportunity to travel around the world to conduct humanitarian projects and events, enhancing their understanding of different lifestyles and cultures.The US Embassy will continue with its commitment to support local, regional and national government initiatives to support on-going programmes for youth and remote populations throughout Guyana.last_img
